This image has to be one of the most moving I have seen – as
Veronica turns directly to face us with her despair.

An Unexpected Find
Catholic
churches are rather thin on the ground in Sweden but we found one in the nearby
town of Akersberga, along with a gym, pool, art gallery and library. During the years of Mass attendance with Paul, I have taken an interest in the
art work of the Stations of the Cross (more on these here.) The images appear in a
huge variety of styles and materials and sadly, I have kept no real record of
the many I have seen. I must own to a ‘soft spot’ for Station VI, where
Veronica hands a cloth for Jesus to use. This seems a most humane yet practical
gesture- in the midst of the cruelty and horror of the Via Dolorosa.
